Latinx Studies Minor

Latinx Studies Minor requirements (24 credits total)

The Latinx Studies Minor requires a broad introduction to the study of race and ethnicity in the United States (ES 101) as well as a focused introduction to the study of Latinx peoples in the United States (ES 254, ENG 253, HIST 248, SPAN 218, or SPAN 228).

 

Required Foundational Course: 

ES 101 - Introduction to Ethnic Studies

Required: [At least ONE of the following courses]:

SPAN 218 - Latino Heritage I (Placement Survey required)

SPAN 228 - Latino Heritage II (Placement Survey required)

ENG 243 - Introduction to Chicano and Latino Literature

HIST 248 - Latinos in the Americas (Some Spanish language proficiency required)

ES 254 - Introduction to Chicano and Latino Studies

 

The remaining 16 credits of coursework must include 12 upper-division credits and represent a range of disciplinary and professional approaches to the subject of Latinx Studies. Qualifying courses will be determined each year by the coordinating committee. (Although not all the following subject codes currently offer qualifying courses, we hope the minor’s existence will encourage their development.)
